CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

A livestock semi-tractor trailer caught fire early Monday morning while traveling southbound on Interstate 55 in Cape Girardeau County, MO.

According to fire crews on the scene, the semi truck was hauling a load of hogs when the driver heard a rear tire on the truck blow out.  When the driver looked out at the side mirrors he saw the fire and pulled the truck over at the 111 Exit and unhooked the trailer from the truck.

By unhooking the trailer from the truck, we're told the fire was kept to the cab of the semi truck, saving the live pigs.  The truck was towed from the scene with major damage.

No one was hurt and the fire did not affect traffic on the interstate.

North County Fire Department put out the fire.
