About half of the states have made the decision to expand Medicaid. Missouri lawmakers are currently debating the matter in Jefferson City. How will what legislators decide impact the state, and those currently living without health insurance?

CARDWELL, MO (KFVS) -

The city of Cardwell will receive a $500,000 grant to update its wastewater system.

Gov. Jay Nixon was in Dunklin County Monday to announce the award of $500,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to assist the city of Cardwell with critical infrastructure repair.

Community leaders joined the Governor at Cardwell City Hall.

The City of Cardwell will use the CDBG funds to repair the city's outdated wastewater system, which was built in 1973 and is currently failing and outdated by modern standards.

Cardwell will use the CDBG funding, along with additional Rural Development funds from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, to construct a new treatment facility on the site of the city's existing lagoon. The process will include disposing the area of contaminants, building levees around the new lagoon, installing liners to rehabilitate all defective mains, and replacing existing lift stations with submersible pump stations, according to the governor's office.

The Community Development Block Grant program, administered by the Missouri Department of Economic Development, provides grants and loan funds to cities with populations under 50,000 and counties under 200,000 to assist in a variety of public works and economic development projects.
