CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -
Another milestone for the Isle of Capri casino in Cape Girardeau.
The Missouri Gaming Commission passed a resolution Wednesday morning saying the casino is suitable for gambling.
That means everything is still on track for the commission to hand over the gambling license to Isle of Capri next Tuesday.
And, it's just about ready to go. Officials at Isle of Capri hope people will be impressed when they walk through the doors next Tuesday.
There was a busy floor ready with almost 1000 slot machines and dozens of live games from roulette to live poker.
And, a lot of local folks are manning the tables. Officials say they got 9000 applications and selected 725 of the best to be on staff here.
About a third of those will work in one of the casino's five restaurants, including a steak house and sports bar type atmosphere.
They also have the farmer's pick buffet where products from local growers will be featured.
From start to finish, it's taken about three years to get this casino here.
The casino's vice president talked about last minute preparations.
"The people here came and asked for an area where they could actually see the river and we were able to do that, and I think they did a fabulous job putting it together," said Chet Koch, VP and General Manager. "Then we have an events center where we will be able to do some shows as well as meetings."
If any local vendors want to get on board they should contact Isle of Capri. The casino also has space to bring buses in and also an events center.
With just a few finishing touches left, on October 30 at 10:30 a.m. Isle of Capri will be open for all kinds of business.
The commission says it doesn't forsee any reason why the license won't be officially handed to casino on October 30.
"I have nothing that I would say we're watching real closely," said Missouri Gaming Commission Chairman Dr. Barrett Hatches. "But things could happen. But again, we're not overly concerned about anything that we can control or that the Isle of Capri can control."
Isle of Capri says its received more than nine thousand job applications and are still hiring.
