Voters take advantage of early voting in Illinois

MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) - The polls for early voting have only been open for three days in Illinois. And thousands of voters are taking advantage of casting their votes before election day.

The Jackson County Clerk and Recorder Larry Reinhardt says the ballots are running close to where he thought they would be at this time.

"We're actually on target for what I predicted for this election," said Reinhardt. "We're about 1700 to 1800 early voting and absentee ballots at this time here in Jackson County. And I've predicted we'll have at least three thousand, so I think we're on that mark at this point."

And all the votes cast leading up to election day, will be counted on November 6th.

"Early will go through Saturday the third. And absentee will go of course through Monday the 5th of November."

Some voters like knowing that they've got their votes in before the general public votes.

"It's definitely easier for people," said Reinhardt. "And as long as we can handle the traffic flow, it's pretty quick and painless."

You can cast your early vote in Jackson County at the Carbondale Civic Center on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, at the SIU Student Center on Tuesday and Thursday, and at the Jackson County Courthouse in Murphysboro, Monday through Friday.
