HARDIN COUNTY, IL (KFVS/AP) - State officials say fire heavily damaged the kitchen of a prison work camp in far southern Illinois.

Department of Corrections spokeswoman Stacey Solano says fire crews were called to the Hardin County Work Camp at about 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The facility in Cave in Rock holds about 240 inmates. Solano says they were moved from their living quarters to a nearby gymnasium and returned when fire crews left the scene about 11:30 p.m.

Solano says no one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation and she couldn't estimate the amount of damage.

Solano says normal work camp operations resumed Thursday. Meals will be prepared at Shawnee Correctional Center until the work camp's kitchen is repaired.

According to Hardin County Sheriff Joyce Cullison, Hardin and Pope County deputies, three fire departments, and Illinois State Police were on scene after a report smoke at the facility.

Sheriff Cullison says one firefighter was being treated after getting overheated.

According to the Ill. Dept. of Corrections, it is a minimum security adult male facility that has 188 inmates.

The Work Camp primarily services the Hardin, Saline and Gallatin County area with work crews, according to the Dept. of Corrections.
