CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Unlike most five year old boys, Ellis Brune didn't want a super hero themed birthday party.  Instead he asked for golf.

Ellis' dad, Jeff Brune, had the idea of cutting out a couple of holes in the front yard, but the idea evolved into the Brune Golf Club, which is a complete nine hole golf course.

"Our neighbors have loved it. People who have kids who live out here come out and play and we get people knocking on our door saying 'Hey, can we play your golf course?'" said Jeff Brune.  "I have friends that call and say 'Hey, I need a tee time at 9:00 on Saturday.' It's really become a community deal for the people out here in the neighborhood."

The course is tougher than it looks and it does have some layout issues like dump trucks that roll in and out of the developing Walden Park subdivision.

"I just mowed where the land took me," Jeff Brune said.  "The path of least resistance. The first seven holes of this I pushed mowed. But once I started, I couldn't stop. I just kept going."

After Jeff mowed out the course, he made the rules.

First, he decided to use a Birdie Ball instead of a real golf ball.  The Birdie Ball doesn't travel as far and is safer for kids when they're out on the course.

"They really act like a real golf ball. If you slice the ball, it's going to slice. If you draw it, it's really going to hook on you," Jeff said.

If you're looking to make the first hole in one in Brune Golf Club history, don't bother.  Ellis Brune made one on the course's inaugural shot.

The course is not open to the public, but Jeff says he's hoping to host a charity benefit tournament soon.
