Marion police investigating barn, garage burglaries

Posted: Updated:
MARION, IL (KFVS) -

Police say there have been several garage and pole barn burglaries recently just outside of Marion, Illinois.

According to Det. Maria Lara, the burglaries have happened intermittently throughout the 2012 in areas such as the 2900 block of South Market Street through the 3300 block of South Market and the 3400 block of Old Creal Springs Road.

The most recent three burglaries on October 18 happened in the 1700 block of East Main Street.

Investigators say these burglaries happened between the late night and early morning hours where the homes have detached barns or garages.

Detectives say the burglaries are not usually discovered until the following day because they happen late a night or in a detached building from the home.

Investigators are asking for the public's help in solving these burglaries.

Police are asking homeowners to keep their structures and property as secure as possible.

Investigators are offering these tips:

-Invest in additional security such as motion lights, alarms and video cameras

- Take time to document any and all serial numbers for property you own.

-Put your initials on it or something permanent that will now make that piece of property unique and specific to you

If anyone witnesses suspicious activity or has information in regards to these burglaries, please contact the Marion Police Department at 618-993-2124.
