BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Three of the four former LSU players arrested Thursday on misdemeanor drug charges are out of the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Tyrann Mathieu, Jordan Jefferson and Karnell Hatcher have beencharged with simple possession. Derrick Bryant is facing felony possession with the intent to distribute.
Of the four, Jordan Jefferson's case could be the most problematic. Jefferson is facing another charge stemming from a 2011 incident outside of Shady's Bar in Baton Rouge.
Jefferson is out on a bond from the Shady's case and this new arrest could jeopardize that situation.
Criminal Defense attorney John McLindon, who is not affiliated with the case, explains the bond process. "On the original bond you're let out with the assumption that you are going to abide by certain conditions," says McLindon. "The number one condition is, don't get in anymore trouble. If a person gets in trouble they have violated the condition of that bond, in theory, they can be put back in jail."
That's the situation Jordan Jefferson is facing when he goes to court on an evidence hearing next Tuesday in front of District Court Judge Chip Moore.
East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore would not comment specifically on the Jefferson case but did talk about the process. "When someone is on bond and they re-offended obviously the judge that sets the bond will take a look at the reasoning behind it," says Moore. "Everyone is presumed innocent, even on a re-arrest."
Jefferson's trial date on the simple battery charge in the Shady's case will be set next Tuesday.
