(KFVS) -

We asked on Facebook if anyone had family or friends in the path of Sandy. We spoke with people from Virginia, Maryland, and New York.

"It started yesterday," Debbie Griffin, a Fruitland resident, said. "Winds started picking up yesterday and every hour it increases even more. The rain is coming in sideways now. It's a lot of flooding, a lot of wind damage, and a lot of people without electricity now."

Griffin is in Baltimore visiting with her daughter who is in from Germany.

"There's a lot of flooding," Kayla Wallace, a former Dexter resident, said. "There's so much rain, it's softening the ground. When the winds are blowing hard like they have been, the trees just literally uproot and fall over."

Wallace moved out to Yorktown, VA due to the military.

"The lower part of Manhattan was evacuated because it's a lower lying area near the water," Andrew Alberson, a former Sikeston resident, said. "I live near Central Park and it's pretty quiet up here. They shut down the transit system last night in anticipation of this storm. So everybody's just staying in just waiting it out."

Wallace is a Sikeston native living in New York City.
