BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

On Tuesday morning, a judge ordered former LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson to report to jail by 2 p.m. Tuesday. Officials say he turned himself into a deputy, who escorted him to the parish prison. He was booked back into jail at 2:10 p.m.

Jefferson "looked shocked" as the judge made his ruling Tuesday morning.

District Judge Chip Moore ruled that with Jefferson's arrest last week on drug charges, he violated the terms of his bond related to an arrest last year. Jefferson was charged with simple battery after a fight at Shady's Bar in Baton Rouge in 2011.

While both charges are misdemeanors, it is the overall situation that landed Jefferson in jail.

"This is what [Judge Moore] does in every case unless there is some outstanding reason for him not to do so. I think what he made clear today, regardless of who he, is that this is how he does business for people who are re-arrested," said Hillar Moore.

"We respect the decision of the court," said Lance Unglesby, Jefferson's defense attorney. "We expected this decision that was made by Judge Moore. Mr. Jordan is here to honor any and all obligations imposed upon him. He has tremendous respect for the court and my opinion of Jordan remains the same. He's a fine young man. And I look forward to, over time, that being apparent to everyone."

East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore would not comment specifically on the Jefferson case but did talk about the process. "When someone is on bond and they re-offended obviously the judge that sets the bond will take a look at the reasoning behind it," says Moore. "Everyone is presumed innocent, even on a re-arrest."

He may have to remain in jail until his next court hearing, which is scheduled for Dec. 12. However, he is undergoing a substance abuse evaluation and could be released sooner. Reports indicate that will likely happen.
