CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

Local volunteers continue helping in the recovery efforts on the East Coast. Dick and Carole Daesche left Carbondale and are stationed along the coastal area of New Jersey.

"They are cold and they don't have power," Carole Daesche said. "They have pets and children to take care of. People are out of work. There's just some much loss."

Daesche and her husband are delivering meals to people in need. She says some of their meals go door-to-door but the majority of them are being delivered to shelters.

Former Sikeston resident, Andrew Alberson, lives in Manhattan now. He says Sandy has brought a close community closer.

"Everybody's helping each other out," Alberson said. "It's been a good experience has far as people helping each other out."
