UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

A mother and father now face charges after their 14-year-old misses what authorities say is too many school days.

"On the weekends, it's stress free," Kim Summers, the mother, said. "But every day of the week, I sit here and wait for a phone call from my daughter."

Summers' daughter reportedly missed 52 days of school last year. She says the reason behind it was bullying.

"They call her everything," Summers said. "It's horrible."

Anna Junior High Principal Mark Laster says laws require students to be in school everyday. After 3 unexcused absences, a student is reported to the truancy officer.

"At that point, they have their own prescribed process," Laster said. "That we have nothing to do with."

Laster couldn't comment on this specific case of because federal laws but he did say the school takes bullying very seriously.

"Our intent is to get to the bottom of it and to deal with it regardless of who is involved," Laster said.

Because the 14-year-old missed excessive days, Summers and her husband face charges.

"Me and him have Class C misdemeanors going on our heads and she has a Class A misdemeanor, Summers said. "She has done nothing wrong and we haven't either. All we have done is try to protect her."

Summers and her husband are scheduled back in court on November 13.
