Dad delivers baby on kitchen floor

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) -

While some were watching President Obama's victory speech, a Heartland mother gave birth to her baby on the kitchen floor.

"It all happened so fast," said Brandon Emmett.

Emmett got home from working his first evening shift at a new job.

"She was lying in the bed saying oh these contractions are so bad I can't take them anymore we have to go to the hospital," said Emmett.

Emmett and his fiancé Amber Seabaugh realized they weren't going to make it to the hospital.

"She jumped on the floor here, and that's whenever I told her to slide to the linoleum, she scooted this way, this is where the water actually broke," said Emmett as he pointed to the kitchen floor. "And that was, that was, I'm not going to even describe that, that was terrifying."

Emmett called 911, and helped deliver their baby.

"I pulled off my shoe and pulled off the shoe string and tied off the umbilical cord and then just kept him warm until the ambulance showed up," said Emmett.

He said he paid attention during the birth of their first child, but this was a little different.

"I was scared for the baby, I was terrified because if there were any complications, she was high risk," said Emmett.

Emmett feels the new baby is a miracle, because Seabaugh previously had 2 miscarriages and a still born baby.

Emmett said she was on medication for three months to prevent from having the baby too early.

Two weeks ago, doctors took Seabaugh off the drugs, and told her she was in labor. She felt contractions, but nothing as strong as she had when she had their baby girl on election night.

"I was completely in shock for another, I guess I'm still in shock," said Emmett.

The kitchen floor isn't a typical location, but now for this couple, and new baby girl, it's a special one.

"As soon as she came out, she was breathing, she cried a little bit and then she only cried for just a second she was just happy on mom," said Emmett.

Emmett said they're planning to name the girl Ryla. She's about 18 inches and 5 pounds 9 ounces.
