PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -
The city of Paducah will kick off its Veterans Day festivities Thursday with a 1 p.m. gathering at the American Legion.
Thursday's reception will announce the 2012 Distinguished Veteran, an award given to a selected veteran active in their community.
The award recipient will serve as grand marshal for the annual Paducah Veterans Day Parade which will be held Monday, November 12.
The parade will begin Monday at 11 a.m. at 2nd and Broadway and travel along Broadway to 17th Street.
Paducah Tilghman High School will host a free concert on Sunday, November 11 as part of the city's salute to veterans.
The concert will begin at 5 p.m. and will feature the Paducah Community Band under the direction of Marine veteran and Paducah native Eric Allen.
Today's reception and Monday's parade are put together by a joint effort between the Paducah Parks Services Department and the Veterans Day Planning Committee.
Both the parade and concert are free and open to the public.
