MINER, MO (KFVS) -
We're just hours away from the official start of firearms deer season, but some conservation agents say they already have their hands full.
Agents say every year at this time, they get swamped with accused poachers.
According to conservation officers, they found Billy James, Jr. using a spotlight to illegally hunt deer before the start of the season.
Officers say James tried to get away, that's when Miner Police were called who eventually arrested him.
James now faces four felony charges.
Local Conservation Agent Russell Duckworth said when it comes to patrolling the area, agents rely on each other during all hours of the night. And in most cases, they rely on the community.
"Most agents are assigned to an entire county and we really would not be as effective in our job if it weren't for the contacts we get from the community," said Duckworth.
If you know of any illegal activity taking place in your area, call 1-800-392-1111.
