HAYTI, MO (KFVS) -

An Illinois man was injured when the vehicle he was driving was struck by another vehicle traveling the wrong way.

At around 6 p.m., Wednesday November 7, the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department received a 911 call reporting a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 155 out of Tennessee and continuing on Interstate 55 in Missouri.

Several different agencies became involved in the chase, including Caruthersville police units who tried to get the wrong way driver's attention.

The wrong way car continued north, traveling into the path of a 2001 Chevrolet S10 driven by Samuel Newmy, 54, of Calumet, Ill.

Newmy attempted to avoid the approaching vehicle but the offending vehicle struck Newmy's vehicle in the rear driver's side.  Newmy's S10 then left the road and came to rest in the median.

Herman L. Maclin, 82, of Ridgely, Tenn. was arrested after his 2006 Buick Rendezvous was forced to stop.  He is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Office.  Charges are pending.

Samuel Newmy was taken by ambulance to Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti.
