The search for an Oran man accused of dragging his ex-girlfriend behind his truck, causing bleeding on her brain is over.
Jerry Lee Dye, 51, of Oran is charged with felony stealing and assault.
According to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, he was arrested Friday afternoon and taken to the Cape Girardeau County Jail.
According to the probable cause statement, Dye drove up behind his ex-girlfriend who was walking along Bloomfield Road and texting on Nov. 1.
Dye asked her who she was texting and she told him she was wishing a friend happy birthday. Dye told her he wanted to see her phone. The woman said no.
That's when the woman told police Dye parked his truck and began the scuffle with her over the phone.
Dye began to push and hit the woman, took the phone, and put it in the tool box of his truck, according to the probable cause statement.
As the woman tried to retrieve her cell phone, she told police Dye started to drive away yelling obscenities at her while her left hand was on the tool box and her other hand on the bed rail of the truck.
The woman sustained major bruises and swelling to her face and head, including a brain bleed. She also had bruises on her hands and knees.
