COLUMBIA, SC (WIS/AP) -

Connor Shaw threw for two touchdowns and ran for another score as No. 12 South Carolina beat Arkansas 38-20 on Saturday.

After enjoying a bye week, the Gamecocks returned to action at Williams-Brice Stadium in their final SEC home game of the season.

Marcus Lattimore was not in attendance at the contest, but his spirit filled the stadium as a special thank you message to fans from him appeared on the video board. Click here to view message

South Carolina lead the entire game, but the Gamecocks momentum really picked up after D.J. Swearinger was called for a head-scratching illegal hit given the Razorbacks the ball at the USC 36-yard line.

Let's just say the ball doesn't lie, because on the next possession Swearinger came back and picked off an errant pass by Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson. Then the Gamecocks' defensive back sauntered into the end zone and launched the football into the stands for his second 15-yard penalty in as many plays and third of the drive.

"They stopped playing after that, pretty much," defensive end Jadeveon Clowney said.

Swearinger extended the Gamecocks lead to 31-10. The play basically ended the game.

South Carolina snapped the three-game winning streak that Arkansas held in the series. The Razorbacks entered having won four out of the last six games.

"It was good to beat Arkansas, finally. It's been a long time. They're not quite the team they've been in the past," head coach Steve Spurrier said. "They have some issues, and this that and the other. They had about as many yards as we did, more first downs (but) every time we made a drive, we got a touchdown out of it. "

Shaw was 15-of-23 for 279 yards for the Gamecocks (8-2, 6-2 Southeastern Conference), who finished with six league wins for only the second time in 20 years in the SEC.

Arkansas (4-6, 2-4) will now have to beat both Mississippi State and LSU to make a bowl game after starting the season No. 10 in the country.

It was only the second win over the Razorbacks in the last seven games for the Gamecocks and it broke a three-game losing streak during which the Hogs embarrassed South Carolina by double-digits.

The Gamecocks return to action Saturday, Nov. 17, in their final home game of the season against Wofford. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium.

The game will be televised on a pay-per-view basis.
