CAIRO, IL (KFVS) -

The Illinois American Water announced they are installing a new well in the Cairo District.

The company says the addition of the 105-foot-deep well to the water service system in Cairo will help ensure reliable service to customers.

The $500,000 investment in the Cairo District includes drilling and installing the 42-inch diameter well. The project also includes necessary electrical upgrades and on site piping to connect the new well to the water treatment plant.

According to Steve Keith, operations superintendent for the Cairo District, the expedition of this project is important to continuing to meet the needs of customers.

"Access to an adequate and reliable source of water is an important part of our local economy and public health," Keith said. "The additional capacity from this new well puts us in a great position to continue meeting the water needs of the Cairo community."

The new well is expected to be in service by the end of November.
