This week’s Heartland Cook, Perry Byrd of Princeton, Kentucky serves up a spicy appetizer sure to get guests at your picnic or cookout talking. Perry’s Spicy Stuffed Poppers are a fantastic finger food with a kick. Spicy jalapeno peppers are stuffed with a cream cheese filling and wrapped in delicious bacon. If you are not a fan of extremely spicy food, substitute milder tri-color peppers for a similar flavor without the burn.Ingredients:24 Jalapenos2 packages cream cheese (8 oz. each)1 ½ cup...

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

It is Thanksgiving week already and the rush is on to start preparing food.  Non-profits are rushing to get dinners ready for thousands of people.

Non-profits will start serving meals, with Luz Social Services kicking it off Tuesday, followed on Wednesday by the Gospel Rescue Mission, and Thursday at the Salvation Army.

These meals are for the working poor, for the elderly, for those who simply cannot afford to put together a big meal this holiday.

For the most part the non-profits have plenty of volunteers to cook and serve, but they are worried about having enough food.

There are still a few places where people can go to donate food.

The charities in town are asking for hundreds of turkeys, pre-cooked frozen pies, but do not forget about the ‘fixings' - stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, rolls, and green beans, are needed too.

The Salvation Army prepared 3,500 meals least year and this year they say they are expecting even more.  They will gladly take all the donations they can.

While out shopping for those last minute Thanksgiving items, why not pick up an extra item or two and donate them today, because serving these meals begins tomorrow morning.
