With the cold air settling into our area this afternoon behind yesterday's cold front, we are going to get very cold tonight as winds lighten up and skies remain crystal clear.
Overnight tonight, temperatures will/should fall to levels we have not seen in East Texas for over a year. The coldest temperature for Tyler last season was 26 degrees on February 12. Longview's lowest temp last season was 25 degrees on 1/3/12 and for Lufkin it was 23 degrees on December 8th, 2011.
Tonight, temperatures will near those levels, and for some of us, especially along I-30, temperatures will fall to levels we haven't seen in a while. Lows should near 20 degrees along Interstate 30 and into the middle 20s for the rest of ETX, even Deep East Texas.
We will be cold again on Wednesday morning with temperatures dropping back into the mid 20s area wide. High temperatures on Tuesday will be near 50 for most, middle 50s for southern areas and for Wednesday middle to upper 50s area wide.
We need to deal with "the four Ps" tonight: pets, plants, pipes and people. Bring in pets and plants, or give your animals a warm place to bed-down in tonight and tomorrow, cover plants or bring them in, wrap exposed pipes to prevent them from bursting and make certain family and friends are warm for the next few nights.
