Ark. deputies search for missing police officer

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) -  Law enforcement from Cross and Saint Francis counties in Arkansas are searching for a missing Wynne police officer who fell into St. Francis Bay.

Rescuers put three boats in the bay, scoured the waters and dredged the area where 24-year-old Nicolas Swink fell in.

About two miles down the bay and into the river, law enforcement set up a post looking for any clues that might float by.

Family members are also participating in the search.

Janie Crosby was beside herself when she arrived at the scene where her cousin fell into the bay.

"The family is just praying that we have a miracle," she said.

Investigators haven't revealed how Swink fell into the bay late Friday evening.

The officer was off-duty when he went missing.

Swink was recently hired as a Cross County auxiliary deputy, but had not yet started with sheriff's office.

"At this moment, it's under investigation and I won't make any comments until later on," said Cross County Sheriff J.R. Smith.

Neighbors drove by the area wondering what happened.

"(It's) sad. We didn't hear anything about it until this morning," said neighbor Esther Wildon.
