Williamson County K-9 officer resigns

Posted: Updated:
WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

The Williamson County Sheriff's Department is down one K-9 unit after a deputy turned in his letter of resignation to the county's sheriff.

Charles Broy had served as an officer with the department for nearly 12 years, nine as a K-9 handler.

Prior to his resignation he filed a report with Energy Police last November which described a dispute between him and his girlfriend, claiming that she was bitten by one of the departments dogs.

Sheriff Bennie Vick of Williamson County says they are dealing with the loss in staff.

"Both Chuck and James were very well respected in the community and their dogs too, accepted by the courts, accepted by the judges if they alerted on something then they were certified long before they had to be certified," said Vick. "We have just had an excellent k-9 unit program for so long and we are going to maintain that program and we won't let it deteriorate at all."

Vick says Broy will keep one retired canine, but must give up the other county dog living with him.

He was unsure as to whether the county would keep the dog with their unit or work with an adoption agency to find it another home.

New federal regulations have changed what many kids who attend public schools eat for lunch at school. However, some area private schools don't have to follow those rules and have come up with their own new school lunch program.
