Kennett noise ordinance goes into effect February 1

KENNETT, MO (KFVS) -

A new noise ordinance will soon be in effect in the city of Kennett.

Kennett Police Chief James Paine announced that beginning February 1, 2013 Officers will start enforcing a noise ordinance passed by the City Council.

The ordinance addresses loud noise emanating from vehicles and is clearly audible from a distance of fifty (50) feet.

The ordinance is in response to numerous complaints received regarding loud motor vehicle electronic devices.  The ordinance reads:

"It is unlawful for any person, while operating, driving or parking any motor vehicle, to use or operate any electronic device, radio, stereo, tape player, disc player or other device for the producing or reproducing of sound in such a manner that it disturbs the peace, quiet and comfort of persons in the vicinity of the motor vehicle, unless said person is operating under the authority duly and properly given by the City of Kennett.  It is a prima facie violation of this section if the sound emanating from the electronic device, radio, stereo, tape player, disc player or other device for producing or reproducing sound in or on the motor vehicle is clearly audible from a distance of fifty (50) FEET."

Please contact the Kennett Police Department at (573)-888-4622 if you have questions about this ordinance or have information regarding criminal activity.
