NEWTOWN, CT (WFSB) -
The Newtown Board of Education unanimously passed a motion Thursday night that would allow school officials to formally accept a gift that would bring security cameras and a keyless entry system to all the schools in the town.
According to town documents, Advanced Security Technologies in Stratford has donated a gift of security cameras and a keyless entry system, which is worth $113,000.
"Its been donated for all of our schools in Newtown and it'll give us an integrated system that we're really appreciative for," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Janet Robinson. "Because, it really helps us feel much more secure."
The company's owner told Eyewitness News that he wanted to do whatever he could to help and pointed out that it was a team effort.
"I called on all of the industry-leading manufacturers to donate the equipment and our company along with the local electrical workers union and a locksmith were able to donate all of the labor to install the solution," the owner said in a statement.
The board also unanimously passed a motion to accept a $5,000 donation from Shipman & Goodwin for use by Newtown Public Schools.
Robinson said she is also requesting eight additional security officers for all schools excluding the high school. There are security officers currently at the high school, Robinson said.
A reminder of support from near and far for a town struggling to heal and move forward.
"And continue to have positive things come out of this and not let it define us as a community who lost 26 people," Robinson said. "But, pull together, never forget and make our community even stronger."
A private meeting with about a half-dozen Sandy Hook parents took place Thursday night as well.

A New Jersey company that operates 13 TGI Fridays restaurants accused of secretly replacing premium liquor with low-quality booze says it's shocked at the allegations.
At one bar, a mixture that included rubbing alcohol and caramel coloring was sold as scotch. In another, premium liquor bottles were refilled with water - and apparently not even clean water at that.
