CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

A Cape Girardeau man faces assault charges after police say he punched a jailer causing him to be hospitalized.

Charlesmen D. Bobo, 22, of Cape Girardeau was charged with felony second-degree assault of a corrections officer.  He was being held at Cape Girardeau County Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond.

Police say the incident happened around 10 p.m. on Thursday.

Cape Girardeau police say a jailer was trying to put Bobo back into a jail cell when he became uncooperative and punched the jailer several times.

The jailer received serious, non life-threatening injuries, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police say Bobo was originally in on city misdemeanor charges.
