This week’s Heartland Cook has his hands full. Derrick Geringer has three hungry kids and a lot of leftovers. Unfortunately, those three kids generally don’t like leftovers – so Derrick has had to get creative. He’s transformed lack-luster leftovers into pizzazz on a plate. To make this dish even more unique, Derrick cooks his Chili-cheese dog Bacon Cheeseburger pizzas on the grill.Ingredients:Chili Cheese Dog Pizza:Pizza Crust1 cup canned chili1 cup shredded cheddar cheese4 hotdogs (sliced)...

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Gun owners nationwide celebrated their firearms during the first-ever "Gun Appreciation Day" on Saturday.

Several gun rights and conservative groups have banded together to urge Americans to show support of gun ownership.

To mark "Gun Appreciation Day", gun owners lined at gun stores, firing ranges and gun shows to stand up for their second amendment rights.

Local gun stores we spoke with Saturday, say they have been extremely busy since the heated gun debate started.

Chad Butler owns Twisted Barrel Firearms in Anna, Illinois. He says his phone has been ringing off the hook recently, and a lot of those calls are from first time buyers.

Butler says some of his customers are concerned they may not be able to buy firearms in the near future.

"A lot of your first-time buyers are buying for conceal and carry," said Chad Butler, owner of Twisted Barrel Firearms. "They don't know if they should have one with safety, without safety. If you are a first time gun owner, get one with safety. If you have kids, get one with safety. If you don't get one with safety, make sure you don't have one (bullet) in the chamber."

Organizers say "Gun Appreciation Day" is meant to send a message to Washington two days before president Obama's second term inauguration in response to his administration's response urging gun control in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting.

"This outpouring of public support is so important for our constitutional safeguards to keep and bear arms," said Gun Appreciation Day chairman Larry Ward in a press release. "If as this president claims the American people are at risk from murderous rampagers, the logical solution is to arm, not present a docile target."

Organizers have billed "Gun Appreciation Day" as similar to "Chick-fil-A Day" as a public statement of protest against governmental policy.

Several gun rallies were held at state capitols, including in Missouri and Kentucky.
