NC WEATHER: Even hotter Friday before cooler weekend

Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

The hottest part of the week is yet to come in central North Carolina, but cooler weather arrives this weekend.

Thursday was only the third day this month that the Triangle made it into the 90s and it was the hottest day so far this month.  The high in the Triangle was 91 while Fayetteville made it up 95.  The heat index was much warmer than that with the Triangle seeing feels like numbers of 96 and Fayetteville hitting 100.

Overnight will be warm and muggy with a chance of some showers and storms moving through.  The morning low Friday morning will be 71.

Friday will still be hot and humid with highs up to 94 with a heat index once again close to 100.  There could be an afternoon or evening isolated storm with partly cloudy skies.

Saturday will see a better chance of rain with highs dropping into the upper 80s with more clouds around.

By Sunday, clouds will give way to some sun and our flow will switch to the northeast which will bring in cooler temperatures.  So with clearing skies look for highs around 83 on Sunday.

Monday through Wednesday are looking nice, with mostly to partly sunny skies and highs in the lower to middle 80s as high pressure to our northeast will continue to dominate.
