After meeting with the St. Louis Rams coaching staff, Rob Ryan will not be joining the Rams as the team's defensive coordinator for the 2013 season.
Although the Rams never gave official word on Ryan's hiring, a source told ESPN that Ryan was set to take over the position. The Rams officially announced their decision on Twitter Tuesday morning, which coincided with Super Bowl Media Day.
"After extensive conversations regarding defensive philosophy, the Rams and Rob Ryan agreed he was not the right fit for the DC position," the Rams statement said.
The Rams will continue to search for their next defensive coordinator, according to the team's Twitter page.
Ryan, fired by Dallas Cowboy's owner Jerry Jones after the season, said that he would be unemployed for "5 minutes."
The Rams did officially hire a new linebackers coach Tuesday. Frank Bush, who was the Tennessee Titans linebackers coach last season, will take over for the ousted Blake Williams. Bush was fired from the Titans staff after the season.
