JEFFERSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

The Jefferson County Justice Center is one step closer to returning ice detainees back to the facility.

The Jefferson County Board voted 12-1 to hire on Advanced Correctional Healthcare to bring in the proper medical staffing, which would meet ICE's medical standards.

According to the County Board President, Robert White, ICE officials must first re-inspect the medical services before any inmate can return.

That will then allow the county to begin to re-hire the 30 or more employees laid off.

Already, applicants are coming in for interviews for the medical positions, giving hopes to White and county board members that this process could go quicker than expected.

White says he hopes to see the inmates brought in before April 1.
