Posey returns to Lee County High

LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -

He is a two time World Series champion and reigning National League Most Valuable Player.

But it wasn't that long ago when San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey was playing baseball for the Lee County Trojans.

The player Lee County head baseball coach Rob Williams calls the best to come out of southwest Georgia returned to his high school field to talk with this year's Lee County team Tuesday afternoon.

The coaching staff for this year's Trojans is pretty much the same when Buster played for the Lee County almost ten years ago.

Posey told the players to listen to their coaches but to also push each other if they want to have success on the field.

Something Buster knows when he led the 2005 Trojan baseball team to the state championship series.

The former National League Rookie of the Year says the Lee County baseball team is also lucky to learn the game from a veteran coaching staff.

"The main thing is all these coaches respect the game.  They appreciate the game of baseball. I think that is what they taught as much as anything," said Buster Posey.

"He worked hard when he was here and had his goals.  That is what we want them to do is to have goals.  Not necessarily  the goals of winning the National League MVP.  We want them to be the best that they can be.  Him coming around I think they can see it is possible," said Rob Williams.

Coach Williams also gave Buster Posey a tour of Lee County's new indoor practice facility.

Some of the Louisville Slugger equipment Posey donated to the team as part of his winning the NL MVP has also arrived to Lee County.

The Lee County baseball team opens their season February 21st.
