1 seriously injured after crash on Mississippi River Bridge

PEMISCOT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

One person was seriously injured after a crash on the Mississippi River Bridge in Pemiscot County. 

Sheriff's deputies say the wreck happened around 9:40pm on Wednesday Jan. 30. 

According to the Mo. Highway Patrol, Nicholas L. Womble, 22, of Hayti, Mo. lost control of his vehicle and drove into the retaining wall of the bridge and overturned.

Womble was ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. He was flown by helicopter to Elvis Presley trauma center in Memphis, Tn.

Womble was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt.  

The bridge was closed for a couple of hours after the wreck before being reopened just before midnight on Wednesday.
