BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -
Police are actively searching for a man they say shot two people during a home invasion early Friday morning in Butler County and then assaulted a former relative in Fisk, Mo.
The search continues into Saturday afternoon.
Fisk schools were on lockdown as a precaution.
The invasion happened just before 3 a.m. on Friday in a home on County Road 569 in the Rombauer area.
Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs says 33-year-old Rodney Joe Green's car broke down, so he walked to a home on County Road 569. After a husband and wife saw Green had a rifle, they tried to shut the door and Dobbs says Green shot through the door, hitting both the husband and wife. The man was shot in the thigh. The woman was shot in the hand. Both have non-life threatening injuries. The couple was airlifted to the hospital.
Police say Green stole a red Dodge Dakota.
Following that home invasion, Green then assaulted a former relative at 288 County Road 6263 in Fisk just after 6 a.m. and stole that person's truck, according to officials. That person did not need medical attention.
The suspect is believed to be in latest stolen truck, a gold 1997 F-150 with a license of 3HE-658.
Green is described as 5'6'', 165 pounds with red hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a brown jacket, gray vest, and blue jeans.
Officials say Green is mentally unstable and is considered armed and very dangerous. Police believe he is on some sort of narcotic substance. He is believed to be in possession of an SKS rifle as well, making him extremely dangerous.
"Their inhibitions go out the window," said Sheriff Dobbs. "They're not worried about getting hurt and it can be quite a challenge to get them under control."
Green has a history of drug and theft arrests. He does not have a history of violent crimes.
If you have any information on the incident or where Green may be, call the Butler County Sheriff's Department at 573-785-8444.
