CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Cape Girardeau fire crews fought a house fire Friday evening.

The fire broke out Friday evening at a home on Water Street.

Brad Dillow with the department said they got the call around 9:00pm Friday evening.

When firefighters got to the scene, about 30-40 percent of the home was engulfed.

He said a female was inside the home when the fire started. She smelled smoke, and found a small fire where her couch was pushed up to a wall space heater. She tried to put the fire out herself, but eventually had to get out of the home and call for help.

Dillow said the home has moderate damage.

No one was hurt.

All four stations were on scene with about 16 firefighters.
