PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -
A McCracken County man accused of breaking into a residence while the family was out of town and killing their pets has been found in Louisville, Kentucky.
According to Sheriff Jon Hayden, leads were developed that led investigators to believe that Richard S. Barnes, 36, had fled Paducah by way of a Greyhound Bus on Friday to a Louisville mission.
Louisville Police were notified by the sheriff's department and were asked to check Wayside Christian Mission on East Jefferson Street.
At about 5:15, Louisville officers found Barnes at the mission and arrested him on the McCracken County charges. He was put behind bars. McCracken deputies will transport him back to the McCracken County Regional Jail within the next day or so.
The family, who reside in the Powers Road area of McCracken County, made the call to the sheriff's office on Wednesday reporting that they had just arrived home and found a man inside.
It was later determined that man was Barnes.
The family told deputies that he had broken in sometime during the previous two days. The man reportedly ran out of the residence when the family arrived home, carrying a cooking pot.
According to Sheriff Jon Hayden, inside the home deputies found cat blood, cat fur, and other signs that the pets had been shot with a rifle that belonged to the victims. It also appeared that the cats had been skinned and processed as wild game.
Arrest warrants for Barnes charged him with burglary 1st degree and cruelty to animals 2nd degree.
