AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -
The Chizik Family Foundation, who supports local youth development, and the Auburn Police Division is seeking community support to provide gifts for Ethan and the first responders involved in the Midland City hostage situation.
"I can only imagine what those guys are going through the whole entire week being down there and going through that. We just wanted to help out the best way we can here at the Auburn Police Division and with the Chizik Family Foundation to bring a little comfort to the first responders and the young man who was held hostage," explains Auburn Police Chief, Tommy Dawson.
Books, toys and cards as well as items for first responders can be dropped off at the Auburn Police Division until Friday, February 8.
Chief Dawson says he spoke with Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson earlier on Tuesday and expressed his appreciation of how he and his team handled the weeklong crisis.
"As a first responder it always feels good to know that the people appreciate what you're doing for them and we just want to say, that even though Auburn is a little ways away from the Midland City, we were watching you guys, we know what you're going through and we appreciate your commitment to law enforcement and to the safety of our children," says Dawson.
The deadline to drop of gifts for Ethan and the first responders is Friday at noon at the Auburn Police Department on 141 North Ross Street.
Jonna Chizik will drive to Midland City on Saturday to hand deliver the contributions.
