GREENFIELD, TN (KFVS) - Deputies are investigating a double homicide in Greenfield, Tennessee.

According to the Weakley County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to a shooting in progress at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

When crews arrived, they found two victims dead at the scene.  The victims were identified as David McAlister, 61, and Timothy Betts, 52, both from Greenfield.

Deputies arrested the son of one victim, Eric McAlister, 40, of Greenfield, Tenn.  Eric McAlister is currently in custody.  He has been charged with two counts of first degree murder and one count of criminal attempt to commit first degree murder.

Investigators say Eric McAlister struck and killed his father with a pickup truck in the yard of a home located at 246 Shades Bridge Road southeast of Greenfield.

After allegedly killing David McAlister, investigators say Eric McAlister produced a .270 caliber single shot rifle and shot several rounds at his brother Raymond McAlister. He then allegedly shot and killed 52-year-old Timothy Betts, Greenfield.

Investigators say Betts was near the area and came to the house and was attempting to check on David McAlister when he was shot.

Eric McAlister then surrendered to sheriff's deputies when they arrived at the scene.

An autopsy is being performed on both of those who were killed.

Eric McAlister is expected to be arraigned Thursday in general sessions court.
