2 facing gun charges after shots fired report in Mt. Vernon

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) -

Mount Vernon Police say two people are facing charges in connection to a shots fired report on Thursday evening.

Simon Taylor and Kenyon Johnson were charged Thursday with aggravated discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm without FOID card.

Shortly before 8 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 21st and Conger for a report of gunshots fired.

After arriving to the area, officers say they made contact with a suspect, Simon Taylor and found a gun and shell casings nearby.

Another caller reported seeing a van that was believed to have been involved in the initial incident parked in a yard in the area of 13th and Perkins.

Officers also responded to that location and tried to make contact with two subjects in the yard.

Police say Kenyon Johnson, fled on foot but was later caught after brief pursuit.

Detectives and a Crime Scene Technician responded to interview witnesses and process evidence.
