UPSHUR COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

The Upshur County Grand Jury has indicted Andrew Lowell Crane, 31, on four different charges, including aggravated kidnapping after Crane allegedly stole a van with a baby inside in November.

According to Gilmer Police, Crane stole a van with Zakar Sheikh, 1, inside on November 21. The baby was sitting in the vehicle while his mother was taking groceries into the gas station she and her husband own in Gilmer.

Zakar was found about 25 minutes later when the police received a tip that there was a baby in a car seat sitting on the side of the road.

Zakar was unharmed. Police found the van abandoned a short time later.

Crane was taken into custody at a friend's home in Upshur County around 3:30 p.m. that day. He was taken to East Texas Medical Center in Gilmer with self-inflicted cut wounds before being transported to the Upshur County Jail.

The Grand Jury indicted Crane on charges of Aggravated Kidnapping, Abandoning/Endangering a Child, Tampering with Physical Evidence and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle.
