ANNA, IL (KFVS) -

The Civil War not only shaped the Heartland, it also separated the nation between the north and south.

This weekend historians, Civil War re creators, and even area school kids gathered in Anna, Illinois for the Second Annual Civil War Celebration.

During the three-day celebration, people were entertained by some local authors, collections of civil war memorabilia and a theatrical presentation of the stories of the blue and gray.

It's a time in our nation's history that is important to remember.

"As far as the Civil War goes, I think it's just an honor to the participants, people that lived during those time periods to recognize the type of sacrifices and the struggles they had," said Bob Schmidt, author of Civil War Mysteries.

There were a number of Civil War regiment training camps around Anna.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg in July 1863.

The Civil War celebration wrapped up there in Anna this afternoon with the final showing of the stories of the blue and gray taking the audience back to the times of the south leading the battle.
