Search for missing Michigan man leads to Carter County

Posted: Updated:
CARTER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

The search for a missing Michigan man continues in Carter County, Missouri.

On Tuesday, Sheriff Rick Stevens says they used a Missouri Highway Patrol helicopter, but saw no sign of Fred Byrne.

Deputies searched Saturday around the area of where his vehicle was found, but still had not found anything new at this point.  Sheriff Stephens said they planned on bringing out some K-9s early Sunday morning to search in the area of where Byrne's car was found.

Members of the Carter County Sheriff's office, The Missouri Highway Patrol, The National Parks Service, The National Forest Service and the Missouri Conservation Department searched throughout the day Friday for Frederic Byrne.

By late Friday night they still had not found him.

Investigators say Thursday a woman called them and reported a car parked off a forest service road.  The woman claimed that the vehicle had been there a couple of days.

We're told the car was unlocked with Byrne's wallet was on the floor board and the keys were in the center console.

Byrne has been missing since Tuesday, Feb. 12.  Members of the Rapid City Michigan Department of Public safety have been looking for him since then.

Carter County Deputies say there did not appear to be anything out of the ordinary or suspicious inside the car.
