Tyler ISD students speak out about their schools

Posted: Updated:
TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Students from two Tyler high schools spoke to community members about the positives and negatives of their school district.

The students gathered at The First Baptist Church of Tyler on Monday night. A group called Tyler Proud asked them to come and talk about their schools.

The group wants to raise awareness about ways to improve Tyler ISD and the number one thing students asked for on Monday night was better school facilities.

"If we could just expand on the school because we have a very small limited area for students to have access to during free time and also our restroom sizes are very small. If the bond proposal is accepted maybe we can expand our school to accommodate more students because the community is growing," says Sheldon McGowan, a sophomore at John Tyler High School.

Students said they were happy with their overall experience at TISD schools but they would like to see updates to technology and school safety.

Tyler Proud says they support the TISD bond proposal and think it will benefit every TISD student by improving overall academic achievement.
