CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS) -

The clock is ticking for hundreds of millions of dollars earmarked for child care in the nation.

The cuts being implemented under the government's sequestration would remove funding for the Child Care Block Grant.

If Congress doesn't do something to stop the proposed cuts, kids and their parents could be left behind. The funds are used by parents who can't afford to pay for child care on their own.

"If the block grant gets cut, that means there'll be fewer children eligible," said Lois Malone, from Malone's Early Learning Center. "If you have fewer children eligible, then of course you're going to cut down on your staff and that means they either go on unemployment or reduced hours."
