JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

A former Southern Illinois University-Carbondale student was convicted on Tuesday of robbery after one day of trial.

Dionta Bratcher, 18, originally from Chicago, was enrolled as a student at SIU-C at the time of the robbery.

Bratcher was convicted by a Jackson County jury for aiding two others in the strong arm robbery of another SIU-C student.

The robbery happened in the parking lot of the Newman Center on Sept. 29, 2012.

According to the Jackson County State Attorney's Office, evidence at the trial showed that the victim was walking alone when he was punched and knocked to the ground.

The victim was able to get up and run away but Bratcher and another person chased after him.

After the victim was tripped by a third person, Deangelo Brown punched the victim and stole his wallet.

Brown was sentenced to the Ill. Department of Corrections.

Bratcher's bond was revoked and he was put in the custody of the Jackson County Sheriff pending a sentencing hearing on April 24, 2013.
