SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -
Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter says a Cape Girardeau man was put behind bars in Scott County on sexual related charges.
David H. Barberis, 55, of Cape Girardeau was charged with deviate sexual intercourse. His bond was set at $10,000.
Walter says the Chaffee Nursing Home contacted his office Wednesday afternoon saying that Barberis had allegedly conducted himself in an inappropriate manner while visiting several female residents.
Barberis reportedly travels to nursing homes and plays music for the residents.
Walter says an investigation revealed that the nursing staff became suspicious of Barberis when he allegedly entered rooms of some of the female residents and closed the door behind him.
Walter said a member of the nursing staff entered one of rooms and reportedly caught Barberis acting inappropriately with a female resident.
Walter said he's glad the nursing home staff was able to report the wrongdoing.
"This guy, he's going around to several nursing homes in the area, in this local area, and if they come forward and let us know, let law enforcement know and he gets prosecuted, maybe it will make other people out there take notice and be a little more vigilant to the visitors that come and go in the nursing home, and again I can't brag on the staff enough for the job that they've done," said Walter.
According to the sheriff, Barberis was arrested at the sheriff's office Thursday after talking to investigators.
