KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

While much of the city and surrounding areas shut down Thursday, not everyone did – some found themselves quite busy.

At Sarpino's Pizzeria in Westport Thursday night, it was business as usual thanks to a company mantra that rivals the post office.

"Rain, sleet or snow. That's really our policy," said owner Andrew Porter.

Porter could barely keep up with the orders for pizza coming in fast and furious from hungry, snowbound customers.

"A lot of people did decide to shut down and the community supported us quite well. I saw shots of the lobby and it's pretty full," he said.

But while the snow didn't stop business, it did bring deliveries to a temporary halt, to the point where Porter, who dropped off several orders himself, was forced to come in from the cold.

"I wish we could be there faster for them because we're going two and a half, three and a half hours for delivery," he said. "I'm glad people are patient, but I prefer to get it there much faster."

Porter wasn't the only one working Thursday and his business wasn't the only one open. The Price Chopper in Roeland Park, KS, held limited hours for customers in need of snow day staples like bread and milk. A KCTV5 crew saw several customers who didn't even try to drive and just walked in. For those brave enough to get behind the wheel, the store hired people to shovel the snow and a snow plow company who had quite a trek to get to Roeland Park.

"We've been on the road since 9 this morning and we're just now getting here so it's been pretty intense on the road down here with whiteout conditions and cars stuck everywhere on I-35 South," said Jeremy Eivins, who plowed the Price Chopper parking lot.

Eivins came all the way from Bethany, MO, for the job, which is about 97 miles away from Roeland Park.
