SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -
A winter storm has moved into Mid-Michigan, causing some treacherous travel conditions.
Heavy snow is causing poor visibility in many areas, and drivers are urged to use caution.
Roads are snow covered and slippery, and plow crews are out clearing snow and laying down a layer of salt.
Nearly two dozen minor crashes have been reported in Saginaw County on Friday morning. Authorities said two of the crashes have injuries associated with them. Other crashes happened in Midland County. In Genesee County, Central Dispatch says "dozens" of crashes were keeping rescue crews busy, and one crash is considered serious.
National Weather Service says just over 4 inches of snow has been reported Friday morning in Saginaw, while nearly 3 inches was reported in the Detroit area.
About 6 inches has been reported in Gratiot County's Breckenridge.
Snow showers are expected to taper off early this afternoon. A mix of rain, snow and freezing drizzle is expected by late Friday afternoon, just in time for the evening commute home.
Meteorologist Catherine Bodak says daytime highs will climb into the low to mid-30s. Snow flurries are expected to continue through Saturday and temps will be in the 20s and 30s over the weekend.
Police say they're dealing with dozens of weather-related vehicle crashes around the state as a major storm hitting the Midwest brings snow to our state.
In Lansing, police say Friday morning they've responded to 12 traffic accidents and eight requests for assistance from motorists. Police say all appear to be weather-related.
In West Michigan, The Holland Sentinel reports a semi crashed in Holland and an ambulance en route to a call became briefly stuck in the snow in Allegan County.
Meanwhile, parts of the Upper Peninsula could get 3 to 5 inches of snow by the time the storm wraps up. That follows a strong storm earlier in the week that dumped more than 20 inches of snow on parts of the UP, closing roads and schools.

One person has died in a crash near Harrisonville, MO, Thursday evening. The crash happened on Missouri Highway 7 and Walker Road. It involved a car and a tractor-trailer. Harrisonville is in Cass County.
Savannah Nash celebrated her 16th birthday last week. She died Thursday when her car slammed into a semi while she was texting during her first time driving by herself.
