FARMINGTON, MO (KFVS) -

Line crews will be out again this weekend working to repair downed lines in areas still without power after Thursday's ice storm.

According to Black River Electric Cooperative, power is back on for nearly 10,000 of its customers after ice brought down trees and power lines. By 8 a.m. Saturday morning an estimated 2,400 homes remain in the dark.

As of 7 a.m. Sunday, less than 200 co-op customers remained without power.

The Co-op says areas in Wayne, Reynolds and Iron counties were hardest hit, but outages also remain in Madison and Bollinger counties.

"You get creative," Scott Combs, a Wayne County resident, said. "I took a griddle to heat water up on so I could wash up. We have a little space heater and as long as you keep track of how much you got on the generator at one time, you're ok."

Co-op officials say reports from customers letting crews know about the location of fallen trees or downed lines has really helped speed up repairs.

At this point the Co-op has no estimate as to when power will be restored to all customers.

"It's an inconvenience but we all get through it and go on," Combs said. "My wife thinks a nice hot shower would be good, but you do what you got to do."

A statement on the Co-op's website says restoration efforts will extend well into the weekend. Additional line crews from Intercounty Electric Cooperative, Laclede Electric Cooperative and SEMO Electric Cooperative will join the effort Saturday morning.

Line workers from Citizens Electric Cooperative, Crawford Electric Cooperative, Cuivre River Electric Cooperative, Gascosage Electric Cooperative and Three Rivers Electric Cooperative arrived early Friday morning and immediately began restoring power to customers.

If you have not reported your outage, you're encouraged to call Black River Electric Coop at (800) 392-4711 or use the automated outage system at (888) 461-2667.
