Marion man sentenced to 10 years for a felon with a weapon charge

MARION, IL (KFVS) -

A Marion man was sentenced to 10 years in prison on February 20.

Roy Antonio Johnson, 26, was sentenced in Saline County Circuit Court by Judge Walden E. Morris to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and one year of mandatory supervised release and costs.

According to Mike Henshaw, Saline County State's Attorney, Johnson pleaded guilty to the offense on unlawful possession of weapon by felon, class 3 felony.

Henshaw said on Aug. 10, 2011 an information was filed charging Johnson. He said class 3 felonies are normally punishable by a two to five year prison term and a $25,000 fine. However, because Johnson in a convicted felon the conviction is punishable by two to 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.

The investigation was led by Carrier Mills Police Department. Assistant State's Attorney Jason A. Olson led the prosecution of Johnson.
