Homeowner speaks after car crashes into her house

At about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Springfield police said a car with five females inside plowed into the front porch of the home at 344 White St.

Everyone in the car was taken to Baystate Medical Center, with four of the women suffering serious injuries.

At about midnight on Sunday, first responders continued to assess the situation after the silver Volkswagen Jetta was pinned under the porch the house.

"It was a big crash and the house was shaking," said homeowner Eugenia Mateo. "We were very scared."

Mateo said she was home Saturday night with three of her family members when the crash took place. Initially, she did not realize where the crash happened.

"When I saw that it was my house and the car was inside the porch, I was very scared," said Mateo. "I called 911 and explained to them what happened."

Police told CBS 3 that four of the five people inside the car needed to be extricated. Neighbors said it was a chaotic scene.

"Between the police and fire department, neighbors within a block radius, ambulances, it seemed that everybody was out here," said Charles Trumbull, a neighbor. "The street was shut down for a good hour."

On Sunday morning, the removal and rebuilding process began for the Mateo family, but they believe more than just their house needs to be fixed. They would like to talk with Mayor Domenic Sarno.

"We need for him to take more control of the speed of the driving on White Street," said Mateo. "The people are driving crazy."
